Broos finalizes South Africa squad

Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams set to captain Bafana Bafana as nation return to World Cup for first time since 2010.

South Africa coach Hugo Broos has named a final 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. Bafana Bafana are set to compete at the global finals for the first time since hosting the tournament in 2010.

Key figures in Broos’ squad include inspirational captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, dynamic midfielder Teboho Mokoena and Burnley striker Lyle Foster. Williams and Mokoena are among eight Mamelodi Sundowns players in the selection. Orlando Pirates also boast eight representatives, including exciting forward Oswin Appollis.

Broos’ side will contest the opening game of the tournament against co-hosts Mexico at Mexico City Stadium. The match is a repeat of the South Africa 2010 curtain-raiser. They will then travel to Atlanta to face Czechia before rounding off their Group A campaign against Korea Republic in Monterrey.
